Pop-eyed over pilchards

Saatchi & Saatchi Cape Town has created a print campaign for canned Saldanha Pilchards in which Cape fishermen are portrayed with superhero status.

Pilchards contain iron, vitamins and omega 3, which scientists make people strong, fast and smart. So the Saatchi campaign uses ordinary Cape fishermen to portray icons who exemplify the benefits: Popeye for strength, Superman for energy and Einstein for brain power. Pictures were shot in Kalk Bay.
Agency executive creative director Anton Crone says: “We took a tongue-in-cheek approach to illustrate the extraordinary effect of all the good-stuff in Saldanha Pilchards. Newsprint was the perfect medium for the campaign to reach our target market.”
