Sharkie, the official mascot of the Sharks rugby team, has been kidnapped, say officials – and will be released only on payment of “ransoms” to The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund, Bobbi Bear Foundation and the LIV Village.

Former Sharks and Springbok captain John Smit has assembled an invitational international rugby team to play the Sharks in the Shark Tank on Friday, June 22. The charity match is expected to be Smit’s last match. Ticket sales will go towards the three charities. Sharkie’s “kidnap” is intended to gather further contributions, which can be made on the website www.barneysarmy.co.za.

A Sharks official says: “Help us raise this ransom by donating, we just want him back. Donate to one of the three charities to build the funds to get Sharkie back safely.”
