The evolution of the old Starcom into Starcom MediaVest has offered the enlarged company more flexibility when dealing with clients.

The SA agency's recent success in winning the Nestlé account - with support from Zenith in London - falls outside our review period. New business between July 2008 and June 2009 came from, among others, Avon, Puma, Anglo Platinum, Gestetner, Sasol and Delta Airlines. New billings totalled R96m. Though this exceeded lost business by four to one, it's a measure of the tough times in the media that agency income grew only 3%.

It played a central role with Amasa in launching an industry learnership programme to identify, mentor and fast-track young talent.
