Barely two years old, the agency has grown from a start-up with three clients and R50m in billings, to 37 with nearly R600m. Checkers, worth R320m, is worth over half that. Last year alone, income grew 300%. This is despite the fact that, according to Dearnaley, the fledgling agency has been almost overwhelmed by business growth.

However, she says extra staff are allowing the agency to look at expanding services. More important, the situation has stabilised to the point that the three founding partners, who hold 100% of the agency, now have time to consider black economic empowerment options. It may also find time to share some of its burgeoning income on social responsibility projects.

New accounts last year included Checkers, Capitec, Milk SA, Shoe City, Metropolitan Cover and Harley-Davidson.
