This agency keeps going from strength to strength: with R270m in new annual billings, OMD remains SA's biggest media agency.

As with so many other SA agencies in all disciplines, international shareholdings preclude the release of business details, but figures compiled by the international Recma media ratings agency show that during the 2008 calendar year, OMD was responsible for R3,2bn in billings. Recma also rated OMD the most competitive agency in new business pitches over a four-year period.

The biggest win was the R200m Standard Bank strategic media planning business, previously the domain of TBWA. Business growth surprised even Dovey, who had expected last year to be one of consolidation while OMD bedded down previous large account wins.

The agency is increasing its spread into Africa. Non-SA African billings are expected to top R400m this year.
