In a period of recession the AdFocus 2009 Advertising Agency of the Year increased its headcount from 296 to 369 and income by 18%. New billings - which included Cadbury, Dulux, SAB, Fifa, Dove and the ANC - were worth a whopping R397m.

A mixed media grand prix at the recent Loeries rounded off a splendid domestic awards season that brought distinction in, among others, the Khuza kids and young adults advertising awards, Ads of the Month and Pendorings. Its campaigns scored well in the Millward Brown best-liked tables, and there were two golds in this year's Apex effective advertising awards. There was also international success at Cannes and the Clios.

For the second time, this agency has also won our effective campaign award.
