Only one account lost during the year : MTN with more than R400m in billings. It was shifted to local WPP group partner Mindshare.

The relationship is not lost altogether, however. The agency won MTN's West African operations, worth R90m in billings. This was one of several welcome wins across the continent. There were three from Kenya alone: Procter & Gamble, Kenya Tourism and Kenya Airlines. Within SA, wins included Bridgestone, Supa Quick, Gallo and Tracker. T he new accounts' billings added up to just under half of the MTN loss.

With that one gone, FirstRand - with billings more than four times greater than those of the next biggest client - assumes even greater importance.
