Another year, another R150m in billings. Despite losing out on R45m with the loss of Eli Lilly and the Agency for Advertising & Marketing, Starcom picked up R200m elsewhere to continue its sturdy growth of the past few years.
SA Airways finally made the relationship formal in July last year, after Starcom had already handled several projects for the airline. Other high-flying clients to add their signatures included Samsung, Aveng, Sasfin, Canon, Siemens and the National Empowerment Fund.
The agency, a division of the Leo Burnett Group, also persuaded the SA Post Office, in a competitive pitch, to re-award it the account for another three years. Starcom's biggest clients, after Procter & Gamble, are Samsung, SAA, the SA Post Office and ceramics distributor CTM.
Proving that creativity is not the sole preserve of ad agencies, Starcom this year won an industry award for its strategy and use of media on behalf of Olay.
