You don't normally expect small, independent SA agencies to win international tenders, particularly when they are advertised in publications such as BusinessWeek and the Financial Times. But that's what Black achieved, beating 48 other agencies from around the world to win the rebranding contract for Kenya Airways. The deal includes uniforms, catering, and inflight and ground product design. The airline is now the agency's second-biggest account, after Denel Aviation, from which it won additional business last year. Then comes Intercontinental Hotels, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) and cellular service provider MTC Namibia. Among its highlights for the year, Black lists turning MTC into Namibia's biggest brand.
Low points for the agency, which was born out of HerdBuoys, includes the cost associated with moving to new offices, and "slow payment" from some clients.
