It's frustrating having one of the world's most market-driven firms on your doorstep, particularly when it's SA's biggest advertiser, and you see little of the revenue. After all, Durban isn't exactly awash with enticing new account tenders. So Ogilvy Durban was delighted to pick up business from Unilever's household cleaning division, due in part to the agency's creation of a new brand activation agency.
Other new accounts last year were East Coast Radio and NWJ (formerly Natal Wholesale Jewellers) - both referrals from other clients - and Durban's Christmas holidays campaign, the only account for which Ogilvy pitched last year. Combined value of the new business was R20m.
The agency's biggest clients are now Defy, Unilever, Boxer Superstores, Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom and the SA Sugar Association.
