In the past 18 months, the agency has broadened horizons beyond its Johannesburg safe haven and opened offices in Cape Town, Nigeria and Kenya. Working with SA clients, it has operated in 15 African countries, as well as the Middle East, Australia and Europe.
It has also created a new operation, Interbrand Sampson Inside, to focus on brand engagement and corporate culture among employees.
A few years ago, the agency hit its business peak when doing all the branding work for Sasol. Revenues declined when the account moved to "maintenance" status. Now there is a broader client base.
Revenue grew 50% last year, thanks to new accounts from MTN, Deloitte, Microsoft, Montecasino, Sasko, Toyota, SABC3, Tastic, Africon, Sun Coast Casino, Telkom, Clover and Nigeria's Access Bank.
