Ogilvy Johannesburg was the leading SA agency at this year’s D&AD Yellow Pencil Awards recognising excellence in design and advertising held in London recently.
The event is the precursor to the more coveted Black Pencil Awards, which will be announced later in the year.
The agency took two Yellow Pencils for its branding and promotion work on DStv’s Afrikaans channel MK and one In-Book award for photography on the DStv Multchoice campaign “Nothing’s Put on”.
SA agencies won four Yellow Pencils and 17 In-Book awards in total.
The other two Yellow Pencils were won by Grey Advertising for the Nelson Mandela Foundation campaign entitled “Martin Luther King Jr/ Nelson Mandela” and Net#Work BBDO for the Mercedes Benz “Attention Assist” campaign.
TBWA Hunt Lascaris was the second highest ranked SA agency with 1 Yellow Pencil nomination and four In-Book awards.
Grey and Net#Work BBDO were in third and fourth place respectively followed by Ireland Davenport which was nominated for a Yellow Pencil.
