After deliberating over more than 60 entries to identify the best local talent worthy of the honour to represent South Africa in the International Cannes Young Lions competition, the panel of Creative Circle judges managed to select a winning team – pity there could be only one.
Euro RSG’s Roberto Adamo (art director) and Willie Struwig (copywriter) produced a thought-provoking and highly relevant print poster for this year’s beneficiary charity project, Vision Mission.
The simple execution of the advert resounds with the frustration thousands of South African children with degenerative sight conditions would experience when attempting to enjoy the magic of cinema. Roberto explains; “We were both sitting outside, came up with the idea and quickly scamped it out on a call sheet. We tried not to over think it too much and just went with it, keeping it as simple as possible.”
Sponsored by Cinemark, the gifted duo will jet off to Cannes in June to compete against the world’s best prevailing advertising talent in the Print category of the Young Lions competition.
“Obviously we feel very honoured to be chosen as the winners, especially from a country like South Africa with such amazing up and coming talent. It’s quite humbling and we’ll certainly try and do our best to represent the South African advertising industry when we compete in Cannes. And of course, we are very excited, to say the least!” commented Roberto and Willie.
Yvonne Diogo, Marketing Manager of Cinemark added: “Cinemark is exceptionally privileged and proud to be able to facilitate this showcase of local talent. We congratulate our winners and are certain that the Euro RSG team will take the local South African flavour and flair to France during the Cannes Lions Festival.”
Giran Adams and Jenny Glazier represented The Jupiter Drawing Room Cape Town with their artwork which earned them 2nd place, with Net#work BBDO’s Johannesburg team, Emma-Jane Harbour and Chumani Mthotshi, claiming 3rd place.
