Dogged champion

A former hot-dog eating champion was arrested after storming the stage during the annual Fourth of July hotdog-eating contest at New York’s Coney Island, reports the London Daily Telegraph. After Joey “Jaws” Chestnut ate his way to a fourth consecutive championship, former champion Takeru Kobayashi ran on to the stage before being handcuffed by police.

 Kobayashi, known as The Tsunami, did not take part because he refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating, the professional fast-food competition body, reports The Telegraph. On his he said he wanted to be free to compete in contests sanctioned by other groups. He was charged by police with resisting arrest and trespass  Chestnut swallowed 54 hotdogs in 10 minutes. Second was Tim Janus with 45 and third Patrick Bertoletti with 37. Chestnut holds the record of 68, set last year.
